So, on with the stripdown and the most accessible part of the cylinder head was the journal caps on the only camshaft left on the engine (the exhaust camshaft)

These were easily removed with sockets. Leaving all of the camshaft visible, the engineering and craftmanship on these pieces of metal are admirable

Now for the arty shot of the removed exhaust camshaft and journal covers...

..and what it left behind on the cylinder head. Look at how smooth the bearing journals are, still retaining some oil on the journals. What I like about this picture is the difference in surfaces and materials and shapes that go into making up an engine. From rough castings to fine machining, dry caked-on crud to well oiled shafts.

Last job of the evening was to take off this cover...

to reveal this, which I later found out was the ignition timing cam sensor - you learn something new every day!
